Perhaps the most crucial area where Dyslexia affects the individual is in education. It is usually the first place that the dyslexic will face difficulty and be ‘diagnosed’ as Dyslexic. The short films "bAd" (USA 2007) and "The Illiterate" (UK 2004) focus specifically on the struggle of dyslexic individuals in mainstream classes that teach in a reading/writing specific style and the two films highlight a difference in educational standards between countries and time periods.

Often the problem lays in what is demanded of the student and the tools and skills that are provided to them to achieve those goals. This focuses pressure on the role of teachers.

World wide it is now accepted that different teaching strategies lead to different outcomes in the learning process of the dyslexic individual. Education is  a profoundly important part of society and looking at how dyslexia fits (or fails to do so) within this framework is hugely important to understand the complexity of the situation.
